Subject: ect
i feel so lost. recently i told my shrink i don't wish to see him again. in the email i told him i have 'recovered' truth is i am far from 'better'.he probably believed my words cos i stopped doing all the self-destructives things i used to do such as cutting, overdosing. truth is, i don't wish to repeat myself. i have spent enough time in psychiatric wards.
right now, i seriously don't know what to do. i have reached a point of no return. i am begining to see the 'light'. contrary to religious belief, the light is actually ending my life for good.
is this when ect helps depressives? shock out the system and give condemn cases some hope?
Answer from DepNet
ECT is the fastest way to get a person out of severe depression, and maintenance ECT done once every month may be able to maintain the mood from swinging too low.
However it is still advisable to return to your psychiatrist who knows your case well, and tell him the truth of what you are going through now.
If you feel uncomfortable with your previous psychiatrist - then you can go to another psychiatrist instead of not seeking treatment, as the depression will need proper attention.
