Subject: Depression or bipolar?

Hi,

I have depression for many years. I have been taking medication on and off but don't seem to be helping my condition.

I stopped my anti-depressant without the advice from my doctor few months ago and my condition get worse. Last week, I saw my doctor and I told him of all my symptoms as below.

I felt that I am talking too much during my work. It seems that I am rather hyper in the day.

I cannot concentrate while working. My focus is poor and I get distracted very easily by things around me. I tend to work on a task and later go to another without finishing the first one and even go into the third task without finishing first 2.

I felt that I have plenty of things to do. I felt I wanted to finish many things at a very short period of time and think that is possible for me.

I could not sleep at night. I have problem getting to sleep and when I sleep, I have very disturbed one.

There are times where I felt so depressed that I failed in whatever I have done. I just want to kill myself. I ended up taking alcohol and making myself really high.

There are times when I want to engage in sex with anyone.

My doctor actually prescribed quetiapine for me after what I have told him about my symptoms. After searching more information from internet, I realize that I was given medication for bipolar instead of depression.

Could I know if I am suffering from depression or bipolar?

Answer from DepNet

Hi,

Based on your description, it seems like you are suffering from bipolar depression. However, your Dr should be in a better position to give you your diagnosis. Here is a link provided for you to read about depression and bipolar, http://www.depnet.com.sg/universe1/depression/mania/

Meanwhile, take care.
