Subject: Patient and Therapist Relation
I was diagnosed severe depreesion and underwent psychodynamic therapy. After few months of therapy, i felt that i have developed a strong feeling towards him. I started to think of him most of the time. Is this normal? Even now, few years had past and i don't see him anymore, he is still always in my mind.
He allows me to write letters to him. Is it normal that therapist allows patients to write to them? I don't know if i should continue to write, or is it appropriate? Because, the feelings get stronger each time i write and reveals my thoughts to him.
Thank you.

Hi,
It is common for patients to develope feelings for the therapist and as may have been discussed with you by your therapist. This is the transference that you feel towards him. It is usually good for you to remember what you have learned from therapy, but it is also important to be mindful that the therapist will remain as your therapist.
Allowing letters from a patient is something individual that a therapist may allow, some do and some don't but if you feel that this feelings are difficult to control it may be best that they be discussed with a Healthcare professional.
Take care.
