Help yourself

If a member of your family or a close friend is suffering from depression, it will of course affect your emotions and those of the people around you. It may also have an effect of the family's financial circumstances if one of the breadwinners in the family falls ill with depression.

Do you need support?

It takes patience, understanding and knowledge to be a relative or close friend of someone suffering from depression. In order to give the necessary support, you may also need help yourself.

It can be comforting and a relief for you to share your difficulties and experiences with others. There are organisations that you can contact to meet people or get advice and guidance:

The Caregivers Support Group is a group of people who are concerned with the emotional and mental well-being of the mentally ill member in their family. They meet regularly to share their experiences and to learn from one another how to look after the mentally ill and at the same time render each other emotional and moral support.
