Hi,
Would like to clarify some queries that I have with regards to the answer posted earlier on the effect of hormonal drugs on mood.
If the depressive episodes worsen during the times when I take the hormonal drugs (which it seems to be for the 2 cycles I was on progesterone), can I safely conclude that the hormonal medication is the one responsible for worsening my mood states? I'm asking this because my mood did improve around 2 weeks after stopping the hormonal drug though the doctor had to raise my psychiatric meds later due to relapse.
Thanks
Hi,
It is possible that it may have contributed to a worsening of your moods. Nevertheless, it is difficult to conclude that this was the only cause of the exacerbation of your symptoms then, as perhaps you could have been under more stress, facing more challenges at that time, coincidentally. For some patients suffering from bipolar illness, there can also be seasonal variation in their mood state, so that they tend to have instability of mood at certain times of the year, or in relation to particular life events/changes.
I would strongly encourage you to discuss this in detail with your psychiatrist, who may then be able ot make a detailed assessment and advise you better.
