Subject: Same pdoc but treat patients differently

The question was submitted 26 February 2009

Me & my just-knew friend happen to see the same pdoc. I was telling her this pdoc would talk a lot to me & gave me a lot of advice & even recommend me books to read... She said this pdoc doesn't talk much to her, more of like this is your meds, you may go now...

Basically, I understand that my friend is more quiet & whereas I more talkative... Both of us are stable with our conditions (depression) now... now I wouldn't talk about this pdoc in front of her anymore, for fear of upsetting her, feeling jealous or unfair.

But now she's asking, what should I say, should I be honest with her? Should I tell my pdoc about it?

Dear elaine,

The doctors usually have a lot of patients within the clinic session, time allocation is often very tight.

The doctor will speak to new cases or unwell cases more at length, while stable cases on medication will be short. If the patient has unresolved issues that requires 1 hour session - the doctor can refer to clinical psychologist.

Be supportive to your friend, and avoid subjects that you are aware that will upset your friend
